Privacy Policy
Overview
Blcksht (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Blcksht platform.
By using Blcksht, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
Personal Information
- Name
- Email address
- Account login information
- Profile information
- Preferences and selected vibes
- How you identify (optional — see below)
How You Identify
During sign-up we ask how you identify. Answering is optional — you can skip the question entirely, and you can pick “Prefer not to say.” Either way we store nothing, and you carry on to the rest of sign-up exactly the same.
Because this is sensitive information, we rely on your consent to hold it, and only on your consent. That is why the question is skippable and why the screen tells you what it is for before you answer. Ask us to remove it at any time and we will, without affecting anything else about your account.
We collect it for one reason: to understand who our community is. It plays no part in what you are shown. It does not shape your feed, your recommendations, your vibes, or anything else you see in the app.
We do not use it for advertising or targeting, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties. It is never shown to curators or other users, not even as a percentage. We only look at it across the whole community. It is deleted along with the rest of your profile when you delete your account.
Usage Information
- App usage behavior
- Events viewed or saved
- Itineraries created
- Feature usage
- Interaction with platform content
Device Information
- Device type
- Operating system
- App version
- IP address
- Browser type
- General location information
Location Information
Blcksht asks for your location for one purpose: to open the app in the right city. Houston, Dallas and Chicago share a timezone, so your device’s timezone alone cannot tell them apart.
We ask only when you tap “Use my location” — never at launch, and never in the background. We request coarse accuracy, your device works out which of our cities you are nearest to on the device itself, and the coordinates are discarded straight away. They are never sent to our servers and never stored. Only the resulting city is kept, and it is kept on your device.
Location is optional. If you decline it, or your device cannot get a fix, pick your city yourself — everything else works the same.
Location data is used to improve your experience and is not sold to third parties.
How You Use the App
If you agree to it, the app records what you open — a screen, a venue, an event, a link out to directions or tickets — along with the city you are browsing, roughly when you use the app, and which version of the app you are running. We use it to work out what is worth showing people, and to show the bars, venues and curators on Blcksht how their own listings are doing. To understand who our events reach, we combine it with what you have told us about yourself, such as your vibe.
We ask before any of this starts, and the answer starts as no. We updated what this covers on October 4, 2026, so we will ask you once more, even if you said yes before. Until you answer, nothing is recorded. If you decline, nothing is recorded at all — not sent later, not held on your device in the meantime. You can change your mind either way under “Share usage data” in Profile; switching it off also deletes anything still waiting to be sent.
It does not include your precise location, your contacts, or anything you type. If you are signed out, the record is not attached to any account. It goes to our own database, not to an analytics company, and it is never sold or used for advertising.
Separately, after a campaign day we may ask whether you actually went to one of the places you looked at. That is optional, you can say you did not go, and anything you write in the comment box is only ever shown back to us — venues see counts, never individual answers, and never any venue-day with fewer than three people reporting. Deleting your account deletes all of it.
Usage data is kept for 6 months and then deleted automatically. How long we keep everything else is set out in our Data Retention Policy.
What curators can see
If you share usage data, curators on Blcksht can see anonymous, combined figures about their own events and profile: how many people viewed, saved, added to an itinerary or shared their events; how many followed or unfollowed them; how many people visited their profile or tapped their social links; how many of their viewers follow them; which of our cities their audience browses from; the days and times their followers are most active; the most common vibe among their audience; and how closely their events match their audience’s vibes. They never see your name or your profile, and never who did what. Totals, such as how many people viewed or saved an event, are shown even when the number is small. Percentages and breakdowns are shown only when they are based on at least 25 people. Curators never see anyone’s gender, and never see the LGBTQ+ vibe in their audience figures. Events shown in campaigns or on another curator’s page are not counted. These figures are updated once a week and only include people who share usage data.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide personalized recommendations
- Improve platform functionality
- Create and manage user accounts
- Recommend culturally relevant experiences
- Improve user experience
- Communicate updates and announcements
- Monitor platform performance
- Show curators, venues and other partners anonymous, combined reports about how their own events and listings perform
How We Share Information
Blcksht does not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers (hosting and infrastructure)
- Vercel, for page-view analytics on our website only — and only if you allow it when asked. The app’s own usage data stays in our own database and is never sent to an analytics company.
- Curators and venues on Blcksht, as anonymous combined figures about their own listings — never your name, profile or individual activity, and never for groups smaller than 25 people.
- Our internal team tools, when you report content — the reason and any detail you write are sent to a private team channel so a person sees it. Your identity is not sent with it.
- Legal authorities when required by law
- Business partners when necessary for platform functionality
These parties only receive information necessary to perform their services.
We require every one of them to protect your information to the same standard set out in this policy, and we do not permit them to use it for their own purposes.
Automated Classification & AI Providers
To help you find events that match your vibe, Blcksht classifies every event listing automatically. This section describes the only use of artificial intelligence on the platform and the only AI provider we send anything to.
What we send, and to whom
Event listings are sent to Google Cloud’s Vertex AI (Gemini) for classification. Each request contains four fields from the event listing and nothing else:
- The event title
- The venue name
- The event start date and time
- The event description
What we do not send
We do not send your name, email address, account or device identifiers, location, saved events or itineraries, selected vibes, or any record of how you use the app. The classifier is never told who you are, and it is never asked anything about you.
What we do with the result
We get back one or two vibe labels and a confidence score, which we store on the event and use to power search and discovery. Classification does not decide whether an event is allowed on Blcksht. Content decisions are made by a person, as described in our Terms of Service.
If you publish events
Events submitted by curators are classified the same way as every other listing, so the text you write in an event title or description is sent to Google as described above. Please do not put personal contact details in an event description that you would not want handled by a third-party provider.
How we hold providers
Google processes this information as our service provider, to perform classification for us and for no other purpose of ours. We engage providers who are required to protect this information to at least the standard described in this Privacy Policy. If we ever add another AI provider, we will name it in this section before we begin sending anything to it.
Data Storage & Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information. Your data may be stored using secure third-party infrastructure and hosting providers. While we strive to protect your information, no system is 100% secure.
How long we keep each kind of information — and what happens to it when you delete your account — is set out in our Data Retention Policy.
Your Privacy Rights
You may:
- Request access to your data
- Request deletion of your data
- Update your account information
- Opt out of communications
To request any of the above, contact us at: info@blcksht.com
Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Blcksht does not use cookies. Our website sets none, and runs no advertising trackers. The app is a native iOS and Android app, so cookies do not apply to it at all.
Our website does count page views, using Vercel Web Analytics — but only if you allow it when asked on your first visit, and the script is never loaded if you decline. It is cookieless: it records the page, the referring page, your rough location, and your device and browser type, with no name, account or profile attached. This is the website only, and is separate from the app’s own usage data described under “How You Use the App” above — that never goes to Vercel or any other analytics company. Both are set out in full in our Cookie Policy.
The app does keep a small amount of information in its own storage on your device — the city you selected, whether you have seen the intro, your signed-in session, and a short-lived copy of listings you have already loaded — so that it works the way you left it. That is device storage, not cookies, and none of it is shared with anyone.
Separately, and only if you say yes, the app records which screens and places you open so we can tell what is worth showing people. We ask before we start, the answer defaults to no, and you can change it any time under “Share usage data” in Profile — turning it off also deletes anything still waiting to be sent. It is not used for advertising and it is never sold. There is more detail under Information We Collect. Our Cookie Policy sets out all of it, and how to clear it.
Users may disable cookies through their device or browser settings.
